AUTHORISATION

Nigerian Institute of Welding has both International and National authorizations. These authorizations enable her to regulate and control the practice of Welding in the Country.

 

INTERNATIONAL AUTHORISATION

International Institute of Welding

NIW is a member of the International Institute of Welding (IIW), IIW is the global body responsible for the control of welding science and technology, welding education and training. The organization is made up of about 58 member Countries globally including United Kingdom, United States, China, India, South Africa, Cameroon and Nigeria. It is interesting to note that Nigeria and South Africa are the only countries with complete authorization to access and implement IIW systems.

 

International Authorisation Board (IIW-IAB)

NIW is the Authorized Nominated Body from Nigeria representing the IIW – IAB in the Country, IAB is the IIW body responsible for the application of the IIW welding education and training globally. It has a current membership of over 40 Countries.

NATIONAL AUTHORISATION

MUTUAL RECOGNITION AGREEMENT (MRA) WITH STANDARD ORGANISATION OF NIGERIA (SON)

Nigerian Institute of Welding has a Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) with Standards Organization of Nigeria (SON). The MRA covers the following areas: 

  • Education, Training and Certification of Personnel, Projects and Materials
  • Standardization/Codes Implementation
  • Certification of Procedures/Personnel
  • Organize Conferences, Seminars and Symposia
  • Establishment of Small and Medium Scale Industries
  • Auditing of Personnel, Industrial Materials and Equipment
  • Monitoring and Control of Environmental Management Systems
  • Supervision, Surveillance and Control of Welding Activities in Nigeria

 

FEDERAL GOVERNEMENT OF NIGERIA LICENSED AWARDING BODY FOR WELDING AND RELATED SKILLS

NIW enjoys the full authorization of the Federal Government of Nigeria under the supervision of National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) as the sole awarding body for welding and related skills qualifications. The license also authorizes the Institute to oversee the process of training, testing and certification for every welding personnel.

 

NIGERIAN CONTENT DEVELOPMENT AND MONITORING BOARD

Nigerian Institute of Welding is the sole authorized body recognized by NCDMB to certify and regulate welding personnel in the oil and gas industry, through collaboration with NCDMB, the industry is beginning to enjoy harmonized welding personnel qualification scheme
